The Mini Apps are small applications that I've written in my spare time. Some of them utilize Adobe's AIR platform and require a small download to run on your system (Mac or PC). Others will run right inside your browser. The applications vary in complexity and usefulness, and I can't really guarantee they'll work perfectly on all systems and setups. At any rate, I hope you find them useful and/or interesting.

FlickrFrame uses the Flickr API to grab the most recent photos from their "interesting" feed and display them in a small frame on your desktop.
You can control the displayed photo by hovering the mouse over the bottom of the frame and clicking the right or left arrow.
The frame will resize automatically to match the image and it will even remember its last position when you close it.

DiggSaver is a simple application that can be used as a screen saver (PC). Follow these steps to make the app into a screen saver.
The app should now show up in your list of screen savers.
I don't know if there's an equivalent method for this on the Mac. If anyone knows a good way to do this, let me know.

I'm a fan of video streaming sites, like YouTube, DailyMotion, and the rest. An issue I sometimes come across is the streaming rate can become stalled and sluggish. If the file is too large to stream efficiently, it's often faster to download the video directly to your computer to play it back.
The problem is that the files are usually in FLV format and can't be played back easily. Using this application you can play a Flash video file and control playback, volume, and video size.
Note: the playhead control is buggy in FLV 1.0 files. This is a limitation of the video file, not the application, and is fixed in FLV 1.1.

Character Counter is a simple application that does what its title suggests: it counts characters. After several situations where I've needed to know the maximum amount of characters I could fit into some content area, I grew tired of loading up a Web page with a JavaScript counter. Sure I could have bookmarked the page, but this is just as fast. Paste or type in your text, get the number of characters. Simple.
