Metal Band of the Week: Children of Bodom
Yikes! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve featured a band, but these guys make up for it. Hailing from Finland, this five member group combines some of the best elements from a wide variety of metal genres. They come off with a nicely balanced thrash/melodic death sound, combined with awesome leads/solos and some great keyboard work to add a symphonic icing on the cake.
Their sound has become a little more "mainstream" since their first recordings, but for the most part they have maintained a solid sound with some progression. I tend to agree with many of their fans that their earlier albums are a little more substantial, but they all offer some good songs. "Hatebreeder", "Follow the Reaper" and "Hate Crew Deathroll" are all personal favorites.
