Firefox 3 Download Day!

Firefox 3 is finally available for download! They’re trying to break the record of most downloads in a day, so go get it!

I’ve been using Firefox since they first came out. Always loved it. Downloaded the latest version, 3.0. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. The first thing that annoyed me BIG TI<E was the drop down box in my navigation box. I used my navigation box a lot for all the sites I visit regularly. After installing the 3.0, I noticed that my navigation box listed sites that visited months ago. Sites I visited only once. Sites I have absolutely no interest in ever returning to. In addition to this, NONE of my regulars were listed.

I tried repeatedly to “clear private info” which always worked in the past, and t would no longer work. I tried “deleting history” and that did not resolve the problem, either. I tried bth methods repeatedly with no luck.

The history is no longer the same, either. Clicking on the history tab produces a box called “library” and it now user friendly.

Frustrated, I went to add/remove programs hoping that my 2.0 was still installed, but the new version replaced it. So I did a system restore.

My programs now list firefox 2.0, BUT it is not usable. When I click on the link, it will not open. It will not even open by trying to access it from my progras file.

Firefox has A LOT of work to do.

Also, did you hear they already found a HIGH RISK vulnerability in the latest version, and they DO NOT have a fix yet?

I would give anything to have my 2.0 version back, but now I’m SOL.

If you haven’t DLed this latest version yet, DON’T.

I agree the interface takes a bit of getting used to. I’m not crazy about the larger icons or oversized items in the navigation bar either.

Speaking of which, they’ve overhauled the navigation bar into what people are calling the “awesome bar” so things like bookmarks show up along with regular history items. You were probably seeing bookmarks you haven’t visited in a while. I think being able to type in keywords related to bookmarked/history pages is pretty cool though, and very useful.

I’m sure they’ll fix that vulnerability soon (which also affects Firefox 2 from what I’m reading). But if you still want to go back, here’s a link to a Firefox 2 installer for Windows, and one for Mac.

You should probably uninstall whatever version is on your system and do a clean install of whatever version you decide to go with.

Thanks, Jesse. Unfortunately, after DLing and installing 2.0 via your link, it doesn’t run, either. I have no idea why neither version of firefox will no longer run, or why a system restore does not restore my original firefox 2.

I’m about ready to throw this computer out the window. First, though, I’ve been wanting to reformat the hard drive anyway. Hopefully, that will help.

Hmm. Sorry that didn’t work for you. I found a video that goes through a process of completely removing Firefox from the system (assuming Windows), in case your user profile was corrupted. If you wanted to try one last thing before formatting, that might be the way to go. Good luck!

Thanks so much for that video. I can’t thank you enough. I can’t believe how easy that was and it solved the problem. Thanks again!
