Patiently Waiting

Zooomr, the little photo sharing site that could, finally launched its new Mark III version a day or so ago. They had plenty of issues and delays that prevented the site from launching on time, but they’ve pulled through. Now, they have to deal with some initial bugs and the tremendous amount of traffic that’s hitting them.

I was super excited to get in there and upload some new photos, but it appears the my OpenID provider has vanished. Which brings me to my next point: OpenID sucks. It’s a cool idea, but what happens when your provider disappears off the face of the earth? Now my account is sitting there and I can’t get to it.

Hopefully vIdentity will resurface or they can merge my account with other login credentials. For me, the wait continues…

as far as OpenID is concern i suggest that you try to delegate and use your own domain name to avoid disruptions in case your provider is down or disappears. that makes it easy to change providers without changing your OpenID URI. better yet, have your own OpenID server. hope that’s help.

That’s a good idea. I’ve had this domain for a while and it would make a good OpenID URI. I’m not sure what it takes to start my own server or if that would be worth the trouble.

its worth the trouble having your own server because you have total control of your username and password. i suggest to use http://siege.org/projects/phpMyID/ its very simple and basically designed for single user. maybe tommorrow if i find myself not too lazy i might able to post something about that.
about the delegation thing..one advantage is you can use not only one url or in this case you can use several subdomains for diffirent site/blogs (log-ins) depending on your mood ;) or relevance.
